Colombian ambassador’s family to leave Egypt

The family of Colombia’s ambassador to Egypt will be evacuated Wednesday due to political instability in the region, reported Caracol radio Monday.

Ambassador Mario Iguaran will stay on in Cairo until he receives further orders from Bogota, but his family will leave the country.

The Colombian Consulate in Cairo has set up a special help line for Colombians needing assistance in Egypt due to the current unreast. The majority of Colombians in Egypt are in the country studying or on business.

The month of January has seen massive unrest in the north African nation, as thousands of citizens have taken to the streets to protest the heavy-handed rule of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who has led the country for 30 years.
