Colombians with flu asked not to go to work

Colombia President Alvaro Uribe called on Colombians who show
symptoms of flu to not go to work, now the AH1N1 virus is confirmed in
Colombia. Teachers who have children in class with flu symptoms should
report them to health authorities.

After the confirmation of the virus’ presence in the country, a National Scientific Commission, haded by Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio, will be in charge of finding a way to deal with the contagious and — in a small amount of cases — deadly new virus.

“At this moment we must not create despair,” Uribe said Monday when installing the commission.

Aside asking ill workers to stay home, the Government asks of hospitals to treat suspected AH1N1 cases at home, instead of in hospitals, so the hospitals and its staff are not subjected to an increased risk of contamination.

According to the President, some 34,000 medical students will be aiding professional doctors in their work.
