Colombians for Peace ask ELN again to stop kidnapping

Peace activist group Colombians for Peace sent a letter to
Colombia’s second largest rebel group ELN asking them again to stop the
kidnapping of civilians.

Colombians for Peace is involved in a correspondence with the left-wing rebel groups FARC and ELN to seek a political solution to the country’s 45-year old violent conflict.

The peace activists asked the ELN to abandon kidnapping in a previous letter, but received only a political response from the rebels, saying that everything is open to discussion. The rebels did not explicitly respond to the call to abandon kidnapping.

In the second letter, Colombians for Peace “politely reiterate the call to explicitly state if they are able to unilaterally and immediately abandon this practice.”
