Colombian VP leaves hospital after heart surgery

Colombia’s vice president has been released by doctors after undergoing heart bypass surgery.

Vice President Argelino Garzon was hospitalized during his third day on the job to undergo open-heart surgery.

The director of a medical clinic in northern Bogota says Garzon was recovering at home starting Sunday and would need 30 days of rest before returning to normal activities.

Shaio Clinic Director Gilberto Mejia says Garzon must follow a new regiment of exercise, medications and healthy eating if he is to progress.

Garzon is a former state governor, journalist and union leader. He and President Juan Manuel Santos were sworn into office on August 7.
