Colombian Vallenato star emerges from surgery

Colombia’s famous Vallenato singer Diomendes Diaz had a successful surgery after surviving a serious car crash, reported local media Monday.

The famous Colombian singer underwent surgery to drain blood from his lungs, which were punctured in a car accident on Tuesday. The crash left him with eight fractured ribs and blood filled lungs.

He was immediately taken to a small nearby hospital for an evaluation but was later admitted to a clinic in Bogota where he underwent the operation.

The procedure was confirmed through Twitter by his manager, who wrote: “Asking the Almighty that the surgery goes well.”

After the operation Diaz’ wife, Consuelo Martinez, said it went “Very well, thank God, it’s perfect.”

Diaz is expected to be in hospital for at least a few more days. The 55-year-old Diomedes is one of the most widely recognized vallenato singers in Colombia.
