Colombian TV goes digital

Colombia’s minister of information and communication technologies, Maria Rosario Guerra, will launch the country’s first transmissions on digital terrestrial television on Friday.

The three public channels that will use the new digital signal are Canal Uno, Señal Colombia and Canal Institucional, and the signal will for now only be available to some houses in Bogota.

The digital switchover will mean clearer images and higher sound quality for television viewers, as well as increased capacity for television interactivity.

Although the introduction of digital terrestrial television is still in its early stages, the coming months will see a growth in the coverage and reception of the digital signal.
