Colombian swimmer takes gold and breaks record at South American Championship

Colombian swimmer Omar Pinzon won the 200m backstroke gold medal at the South American swimming championship in Brazil Wednesday.

The man from Bogota notched up a time of 1 min 59.67 sec in the final, breaking a championship record held for 12 years by Brazilian Rogerio Aoki Romero.

Although seven Colombians qualified for finals in various disciplines, Pinzon was the only one to have taken a medal at the end of the first day.
