Leon made his announcement at Campus Party Colombia, a week long electronics festival in Bogota. Leon revealed that next year three students would be selected from the same festival to assist in a “microrover” project to send a miniature robot to the moon in an effort to find water.
Leon briefly demonstrated a prototype of the robot that will be used and discussed the importance of education in achieving career goals.
Leon was invited to the festival at the request of the AC&T Global Foundation a non-profit educational group that encourages young Colombians to develop their creative and entrepreneurial abilities.
Leon is the director of the NASA Robotics Alliance Project, which seeks to cultivate robotics skills in young students for use in future space projects.
