Colombian stocks move higher; peso weakens for 3rd day

Colombian stocks were higher Wednesday led by a big jump in oil stocks, the heaviest-weighted shares in the index.

The IGBC index, considered the benchmark for Colombia, posted a 1.27% increase to close at 15098.13. Stocks remain 2.5% lower so far this year.

Shares of state-run oil company Ecopetrol SA (EC, ECOPETROL.BO) jumped 2.07% to COP3,940, while Pacific Rubiales Energy (PEGFF, PRE.T), a Canadian firm that lists both in Toronto and Bogota, saw its local shares rise 2.92% to COP63,420.

The Colombian peso, meanwhile, weakened for a third day to close at COP1,864.00 to the dollar from 1858.35 a day earlier. The yield on the benchmark 2020 bond stood at 7.850% from 7.925% a day earlier.
