Colombian soldier ‘trafficking arms for rebels’

Police in northeast Colombia have arrested a soldier who allegedly was trafficking arms for rebel group ELN, local media reported Thursday.

According to the reports, the army sergeant was apprehended at a road block while driving a truck carrying rifles and rifle parts, 261 rifle cartridges and army uniforms.

The military official was in charge of the weaponry for the 18th brigade of the National Army, stationed in the troubled Arauca department.

According to the police, the sergeant had stolen the weapons was on his way to deliver the arms to the ELN, which is highly active in the region.
