Colombian police seize half ton of cocaine from tourist bus

Colombian police seized 460 kilos of cocaine hidden on a tourist bus that was travelling from the central Colombian city of Medellin to the nation’s Caribbean coast.

The bus’ driver and assistant were arrested by Medellin police as the bus passed through a northern suburb of the city.

Medellin police commander, Colonel Luis Eduardo Martinez, told media that the haul had been wrapped in one kilo packages and hidden in the floor of the bus and in the driver’s sleeping compartment.

Martinez said police believe the drug shipment to be the property of local drug traffickers that “have extended their tentacles to the Atlantic coast.”

The bus was destined for the Caribbean town of Tolu.

The drug haul has an estimated street value of $16 million.
