Colombian police capture 15 suspected neoparamilitaries

Police captured 15 suspected members of the neoparamilitary drug traffickers the “Urabeños,” in Colombia’s northern department of Cordoba, said local media Thursday.

According to reports, authorities captured the criminals in operations in and around the city of Monteria, the capital of the Cordoba department. Along with the suspects, police seized two motorcycles, one rifle, 26 cellphones, and around $400 in cash.

Police Colonel Jaime Avila Ramirez told press, “Through the intelligence and observations of our undercover agents we were able to locate where the suspects live and achieve a mass capture.”

Amongst those captured was demobilized former paramilitary commander Luis Vergara Marquez.

The suspects face charges of racketeering and homicide.
