Colombian navy nabs 2,300lbs of cocaine

Colombia’s navy chased and stopped a go-fast boat, seizing 2,277 pounds of cocaine from the vessel off its Pacific coast, authorities said Sunday.

The navy pursued the boat in the Pacific near Togoroma, in Choco department (province), it said.

According to a navy press release, officers confiscated the cocaine as well as a kilo of coca paste.

The crew and boat were brought into the port of Buenaventura, it added.

So far in 2011, two tons of cocaine presumably bound for US and European markets have been confiscated in Colombia’s Pacific waters, worth more than 70 million dollars, authorities said.
