Colombian musician selected for YouTube Symphony Orchestra

A Colombian musician is among nine Latin Americans who have been selected to perform in YouTube’s second Symphony Orchestra, which will be broadcast live from the Sydney Opera House.

Oscar David Garcia, a bassoonist, had to audition completely online and will join 100 other selected participants from over 30 different countries, reports Terra.

“This demonstrates the potential of new generations of musicians and their interest in linking the world through music and culture,” said the Bogota-based 27-year-old.

The finalists, ranging from 14 to 49 years old, are due to meet in on March 14 in Sydney, Australia. They will spend the week preparing and getting to know each other before the live performance from the iconic Sydney Opera House on March 20.

The first YouTube Symphony Orchestra occurred in April 2009 under the direction of American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, who will be reprising his role for the forthcoming edition.
