Hundreds of works from Bogota’s Botero Museum and Gold Museum were made available online as the Google Art Project was officially launched in Colombia Wednesday.
“Both collections are a part of Colombia’s heritage guarded by the Bank of the Republic and are now within reach of users worldwide,” said Deputy Director of Culture for the Bank of the Republic Angela Perez.
The General Manager of Google in Colombia Laura Camacho hoped that more Colombian museums would be added to the online collection.
The Google Art Project was launched February 11 last year and gives vistors access to high-resolution images from the project’s partner museums. Among those included are New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, London’s Tate Gallery, and Florence’s Uffizi.
The South American museums already involved in the project include Argentina’s Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Brazil’s Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo and Pinacoteca do Estado de Sao Paulo, Mexico’s Museum of Anthropology, National Art Museum, the Dolores Olmedo Museum and Frida Kahlo Museum, and Peru’s Art Museum in Lima.
