Colombian ‘model-turned-drug lord’ called to trial

A Colombian former beauty queen and model was called to trial to face drug trafficking charges, Argentine judicial sources told French press agency AFP.

The 31-year-old Angie Sanclemente Valencia was told to appear before a judge almost seven months after her arrest in a Buenos Aires hostel.

The former Coffee Queen beauty pageant winner will have to defend herself against charges she was the delegate of a Mexican drug cartel in Argentina.

Sanclemente Valencia was allegedly in charge of the drug organization’s recruitment of “mules,” or people smuggling drugs. In the case of the Colombian model, authorities say she was using young, attractive models who wouldn’t arouse suspicion to carry the drugs.
