Armed forces destroy ‘FARC’ camp in western Colombia

A joint operation between Colombia’s Air Force and Army dealt another blow to guerrilla group FARC in the country’s west Thursday.

Following three months of intelligence work, Colombian forces raided the suspected encampment of the FARC’s “Aurelio Rodriguez” Front in Pueblo Rico, a municipality located along the border between the departments of Choco and Risaralda.

Risaralda’s Governor Carlos Botero praised the troops, saying “I want to congratulate our National Army for carrying out their duty.”

According to Colonel Marcos Pinto, authorities seized a cache of arms, munitions, landmines, communication equipment, six laptops, two USB sticks and uniforms.

The military captured a woman, known by the alias of “Claudia”, who allegedly worked as a nurse for the front’s top command for over a decade.

The military also wounded two suspected guerrillas, known by their aliases, “Arley” and “Jimmy”. The rebels surrendered to security forces, after which they received first aid and were evacuated for further medical care.
