Colombian group ChocQuibTown releases new video

Colombian hiphop group ChocQuibTown released a new video for their single “Hasta el Techo” (To the Roof) Tuesday.

The song is the third single from the album “Eso es lo que Hay” (That’s what we are) which came out in November 2011, but is slower and sadder than most of their other hits.

“We have to find the musicality, in the end that’s the aesthetic that moves us,” said band member Tostao according to music website Estereo Fonica.

At first the video appears to tell a happy love story but this is quickly changed when the leading lady is shown to be pregnant. They band said they wanted to tell the story of thousands of Afro-Colombian women who are faced with unplanned pregnancies every year and chose to film the video in Barrio la Soledad (neighborhood of solitude) in Bogota which has a high proportion of Afro-Colombians.

The video was designed by band members Goyo, Tostao, and Slow, along with their producer Andres Castro and was produced by Plan 9 Films Production Company.
