Colombian freed from rubble in Haiti

A Colombian man was rescued from underneath the ruins of the UN headquarters in Haiti, 30 hours after an earthquake tore through the country.

Colombian Hermes Peñaloza from the Santander department was rescued by Brazilian rescue workers and was able to call his family to tell them he was alive.

So far there have been no reports of any Colombian citizens killed by the earthquake that has cost the lives of at least 50,000.

Meanwhile, authorities are repatriating Colombians who were living or working on the Caribbean island. Nine Colombians returned to Bogota on Friday morning, and fourteen others are expected to arrive in the afternoon. The remaining Colombians have indicated they want to stay in Haiti.
