Former Colombian politician sues state

Former Colombian congressman German Olano Becerra sues the government for $86,000 for moral, economical and psychological damages after being accused in a well-publicized corruption case, Colombia’s W Radio reported Tuesday.

In February 2012 the Procurator General of the Nation, Alejandro Ordoñez, suspended Becerra from public office for 12 years for allegedly misusing public funds belonging to the city of Bogota.

Becerra claimed the suspension was unfair and said he would take the case to court unless a settlement was achieved.

On Monday, Colombia’s State Council said Becerra would be subject to a psychological examination to see if he really had suffered mental damage from the ordeal.
