Colombian soccer player shot dead on night out

A Colombian soccer player was fatally shot Tuesday night during a fight over a game of cards in Puerto Tejada, in the western department of Cauca, Colombian media reported

Edison Hipolito Chara Lucumi, aged 31, was on a night out with friends when he was shot by unknown gunmen, one of the bullets hitting him in the head. The shooting occurred between 10PM and 11PM Tuesday evening.

Chara Lucumi was taken to hospital in Puerto Tejada and transferred to the Valle del Lili de Cali clinic. He died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Commander of the Cauca Police, Coronel Carlos Ernesto Rodriguez, said that a fight broke out during a card game between players at the local social club and in the resulting altercation the footballer was shot, reported newspaper El Tiempo.

From March 23 of this year, Chara Lucumi played for Dalian Aerbin in China. He previously played for the Colombian clubs Huila, Pereira, Deportivo Cali, America and Once Caldas. Abroad he was the forward for Montevideo Wanderes in Uruguay, and Juan Aurich in Peru.
