Colombian filmaker nominated for Golden Bear at Berlinale

A Colombian filmmaker has been nominated for a Golden Bear at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival.

Spiros Stathoulopolous, the Bogota-born director of Greek descent, has been selected to compete for the coveted award with his film “Meteora”, which he wrote and directed.

The film is set in Greece, and explores the dymanics of spirituality and human desire, told through the story of a Greek monk and a Russian nun.

The shortlist for the prestigious prize was announced January 10, and includes offerings from France, the U.S., Russia, Germany and Italy.

The 62nd Berlin International Film Festival will be held as part of the 2012 Berlinale, and will take place in the German capital from February 9-19.
