A delegation of 60 representatives from Colombia’s main oil and gas companies attended the Global Petroleum Show 2012 held in Calgary, Canada June 12-14.
Among the 2,000 exhibitors were Colombia’s largest private oil company, Pacific Rubiales Energy, and Canacol Energy, which has just announced a heavy oil exploration drilling program in the Putumayo Basin in southwest Colombia. Colombia’s state-run petroleum company, Ecopetrol, was also in attendance.
Colombo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce held a cocktail reception during which Alejandro Martinez, president of the Colombian Oil Association, discussed investment opportunities in the industry.
The event, which was billed the meeting place for the oil and gas industry, was attended by 63,000 industry leaders, professionals, field operators, and engineers.
Eighty per cent of Colombia’s foreign direct investment (FDI) — $4.85 billion — in the first four months of 2012 was directed towards Colombia’s oil and mining sector. Colombia’s FDI was up by almost 25% compared to the same period last year.
