Colombian air force loses contact with stolen plane

Colombia’s air force lost contact with an airplane in Honduras that was stolen from an airport in the northwestern department of Antioquia Sunday.

Colombia sent a reconnaissance fighter jet to locate the stolen Cesna 210 until the aircraft entered Panamanian airspace, at which point Central American authorities were alerted to the plane’s presence. Contact with the plane, which was stolen by armed men who threatened security staff at Los Cedros airport, was lost in Honduras. Honduran authorities continue their search for the missing aircraft.

The plane had been stationed at the Antioquia airport since December 2011, when it was intercepted and expropriated by Colombian authorities during an attempted illegal flight between Colombia and Honduras.
