Colombiamoda, the most important fashion and textile event in Colombia’s second largest city Medellin, kicked off on Tuesday.

The 25th edition of the annual event was inaugurated by President Juan Manuel Santos.

The first designer to present a collection on the event’s catwalk was Colombian Camilo Alvarez.

The most prominent event of Colombian textile and fashion association Inexmoda is expected to generate more than $250 million in business, said Inexmoda.

Some 1,780 buyers from 35 countries are expected to attend the business events and presentations organized during Colombiamoda. More than half of these foreign buyers are attending the fashion week for the first time.

The Medellin fashion week will last until Thursday.
