Half way through Colombia’s Liga Postobon soccer semifinals it is still too close to call which team will make it to the finals.
Two groups of four teams will decide who will compete in the final four stage with the top two teams progressing to the penultimate round. All eight teams have played three matches and have three to go.
Millionarios managed to claim a 3-0 win at home to Deportes Tolima, with midfielder Jose Trancredi claiming a long range goal in the 46th minute. Rafael Robayo claimed Millionarios’ second goal in the 58th minute after Medellin was awarded a penalty. Midfielder Luis Mosquera put Millionarios three goals in front in the 71st minute. The match drew to a close with Millionarios claiming their first three points of the round after an unfortunate two game losing streak.
Trancredi said after the match that ‘’my goal gave us the drive to score three goals and we are filled with the confidence for the three remaining league games’’ however the team will have to keep a level head on their performance if they want to qualify for the final four.
Millionarios currently sit in the third place of group A after forcing their Wednesday night opponents down to fourth, both teams start the second week of the final eight round on three points.
Occupying the group A first and second place is Junior and Deportivo Pasto respectively, both comfortably ahead on six points.
Sunday will see Junior face Deportes Tolima at home. Medellin will also be hoping to capitalize on another home game against Deportivo Pasto.
In group B, all four teams still have three games to play with La Equidad in top place on six points while Itagui and Medellin are in second and third with four points apiece and Athletico Nacional trail in fourth place on three points.
Medellin will take on La Equidad at home on Sunday, a win would vault them in to first place however, if La Equidad come out on top they would be able to put more distance between themselves and the rest of the group and greater their already favorable chances of qualification.
This week will prove a test for all the remaining teams as it truly is too close to call.
