Colombia’s police on Monday seized just under 50 assets from the country’s main rebel group FARC. The assets, worth about $6.3 million, included houses, vehicles, and a public parking lot.

The police reported that the owners of the assets acted as front men for the 45 Bloc of the FARC and would regularly sell and transport cocaine to other cells of the rebel group.

Colonel Hermes Barrera, Director of the Special Police Unit dedicated to investigating kidnappings, Gaula Bogota, said that the vehicles seized had been used for kidnapping, the transportation of drugs, and money laundering.

The total assets taken by the government included six houses, five apartments, 26 vehicles, three local businesses, a motorcycle and a public parking lot.  The Prosecutor General’s office said that 82,000 hectares of stolen land were also located and reclaimed from the FARC in the states of Meta and Caqueta.

The process of restoration of land and goods to victims of the armed conflict expects to return 2 million hectares of land by the middle of 2014.

This seizure occurs as peace talks between the FARC and the Colombian government continue in Havana, Cuba.  The talks will have been going on for a full year this November.
