Colombia says Venezuela foreign minister cancels planned visit

Venezuela Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro has canceled a visit to Colombia planned for Monday, an official in Bogota said Friday.

Maduro was due to meet formally with his Colombian counterpart Maria Angela Holguin, but informed the Colombian Foreign Ministry he won’t be able to make it, said a representative from the ministry’s press office, who asked not to be named.

Venezuela’s government has spent the past couple days trying to dispel rumors that President Hugo Chavez’s health is deteriorating following cancer treatment. Chavez denied the rumors Thursday and tossed around a softball with top officials including Maduro to demonstrate he’s still got some vitality.
