Colombia’s statistics agency DANE on Thursday said the country’s economy had grown 4.2% in the second quarter of 2013.

The growth is 0.6 percentage points less than in the same quarter last year when Colombia’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew 4.8%.

However, the GDP growth picked up compared to the quarters preceding 2013’s second.

The strongest growth was recorded in Colombia’s agricultural and livestock sector in spite of protests that kicked off in the last two weeks of the quarter. The weakest growth, 1.2%, was recorded by the country’s manufacturing sector.
