Colombia: World’s 8th-highest terrorist risk

terrorismo, colombia, danger

Colombia was ranked eighth in the Terrorism Risk Index (TRI), a list developed in London to show the countries most in danger of terrorist attack, reported Caracol on Wednesday.

Compiled using studies by risk assessment company Maplecroft, the TRI measures the risk and likelihood of an attack in a country and the chances of mass casualties, with the aim of creating a biannual report for companies to “assess terrorism risks to their international assets.”

Where Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan occupied the first three places on the list, Colombia was placed at number eight.

Other countries listed as being in risk of terror attacks are Somalia (4), Lebanon (5), India (6), Algeria (7) and Thailand (9).

Maplecroft said the global rankings are based on analyses of terrorist incidents every six months for their frequency, intensity and number of victims.

The TRI is not clear in its definition of terrorist organisations, but guerrilla groups FARC and ELN are frequently named in reports collated by the UK risk assessment company.
