Leaders from Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala and Panama met
Friday to form an alliance against organized crime, a senior Colombian
official said.
During the meeting in Panama City, President Alvaro
Uribe and his counterparts from Mexico, Guatemala and Panama discussed
the establishment of a mechanism to tackle organized drug trafficking
in the region, officials said.
“The main aim of the meeting is to
achieve operative commitments among the four countries to facilitate
the effective dismantle of crime groups in the region,” Foreign
Minister Jaime Bermudez said before leaving for Panama City.
The presidents also were to discuss
strategic analysis, police and military operations and the exchange of
information among the four countries.
