Colombia midfielder Vargas joins AEK Athens

Colombian midfielder Fabian Vargas was transferred to the AEK Athens, one of the most popular teams in the Superleague Greece, international media reported.

The Greek giants signed Vargas to a one year deal with the option to extend.

Vargas, born in Bogota, got his start in soccer playing for America Cali. He helped lead the Colombian national team to win the Copa America championship in 2001.

The 31-year-old midfielder most recently played for UD Almeria in Spain for two years.

“Thank you UDA and all the Almerians for your hospitality and support. Goodbye Almeria! Welcome AEK Athens FC !!!” Vargas tweeted.
