The Colombian GDP grew 4% in 2012, down from 6.6% in 2011, according to the government’s statistics agency.
In the fourth quarter of 2012 the economy grew by 3.1%, a small increase from the third quarter which brought overall growth in 2012 to 4%, according to a press release from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE).
The government established the goal for growth in 2013 at 4.8%. Meanwhile, Colombia’s Central Bank President Jose Darío Uribe was more conservative and said that it would reach 4% this year, with a downward bias.
President Santos tweeted his optimism in response.
“Very good news, the economy grew 4% en 2012, it fills us with optimism to continue building a country more just, modern, and secure,” President Juan Manual Santos tweeted on Thursday.
