Colombia crowns 3 national beauty queens (photos)

Colombia elected the 2011 beauty queens — Miss Coffee, Miss Bambuco and Miss Folklore — for three of the country’s annual beauty pageants over the holiday weekend, local media reported.

Cartagena’s chosen representative, Yoselin Rincon Castillo, won the title of Colombia’s 2011 National Coffee Queen, in the competition which began June 28 in Calarca, in the country’s west-central Quindio department, and wrapped up this past weekend, reported Cartagena newspaper El Universal.

The new Miss Coffee from the north Caribbean coast will now have to prepare herself for the international version of the competition, where she will aspire to be crowned the International Coffee Queen in Manizales (Caldas) in 2012.

Meanwhile, the Arauca department’s candidate won the title of National Bambuco Queen for the first time at the end of the Bambuco and Folk-life celebration Sunday in the southern city of Neiva.

Zaira Karina Perez Colina, aged 24, was crowned the new Miss Bambuco, after impressing Neiva judges with her musical and dancing skills. In honor of her victory, Zaira will be presented with a new Renault automobile, as well as free plastic surgery with a noted Colombian doctor.

Finally, in Ibague, Colombia’s music capital, Karla Isabel Gonzalez Gutierrez of Magdalena was crowned Miss Folklore 2011 in the Colombian Folklore Festival that wrapped up on Monday morning, newspaper El Tiempo reported.

The 18-year-old beauty, who lives in the north coastal department’s Cienaga municipality, said of her victory that she has been practicing traditional dances since childhood, and “carries folklore in her heart.”
