Colombia assigns new ambassador to Venezuela

Colombia’s Foreign Ministry on Monday assigned a new ambassador to Venezuela, after the former ambassador resigned over his alleged implication in a major corruption scandal.

Ricardo Montenegro, who until Monday was Bogota‘s business attache to Caracas, will take the place of Jose Fernando Bautista who offered his resignation for his apparent links to a Bogota construction company investigated for bribing politicians.

Bautists’s resignation was made public Monday and immediately accepted by Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin and President Juan Manuel Santos.
