Colombia arrested 143 foreigners for drug trafficking in 2010

Colombian police arrested 143 foreigners suspected of drug trafficking in 2010, counter-narcotics chief Cesar Augusto Pinzon told Spanish press agency Efe Monday.

According to the police chief, among the foreigners are “31 Spanish, 13 Mexicans, 10 Dominicans, seven Dutchmen and seven Americans.”

PInzon said all these foreigners were “put in jails in the country,” but couldn’t say if the suspects had been convicted.

The police chief told Efe about the results of this year’s fight against drugs.

According to Pinzon, police in 2010 intercepted 73.6 tons of cocaine, 222 tons of marijuana and 209 kilos heroin.

Authorities also seized 32.5 tons of coca paste and bazuco (a heavily addictive cocaine-based mix of drugs)
