Colombia, Ecuador foreign ministers to meet in Quito

Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguin and her Ecuadorean counterpart Ricardo Patiño will meet in Quito on October 28 to chair a bilateral Committee on Sensitive Issues, reports EPA.

The meeting follows talks between the two countries in August and September this year to mend relations broken after a Colombian raid on a FARC camp in Ecuadorean territory in March 2008.

Holguin said that after the coming meeting, “we will have more clarity on the process of re-establishing our diplomatic relations.”

Colombia and Ecuador have yet to fully restore diplomatic ties by each appointing an ambassador to the other country.

Among the topics discussed will be information Colombia says it found on computer hard drives of guerrilla leader “Raul Reyes” who was killed at the 2008 attack in 2008. Bogota claimed that the drives contained evidence linking Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa to the guerrillas.
