Murder attempt on Supreme Court official

Two unknown assailants on Tuesday made an attempt on the life of Ivan Andres Cortes, the assistant magistrate to a Supreme Court judge targeted in the illegal wiretapping operations of government security agency DAS.

According to W Radio, Cortes was traveling through a Bogota neighborhood when he was shot at twice by two unidentified men in a red car. He escaped unhurt.

The official reported the incident in the city’s San Fernando police station, where he was attended to by General Cesar Augusto Pinzon of the Metropolitan police.

The general told reporters, “Tomorrow [Wednesday] we will deliver a report on the case. We are making progress in investigation of the bullets to determine what type of missile was used.”

Pinzon added that Cortes would now receive special protection from the police.

Cortes worked as the assistant magistrate to Supreme Court Judge Jorge Luis Quintero Milanes, who was a victim of the DAS’s illegal surveillance and wiretapping operations.
