ChocQuibTown up for Video of the Year

Colombian hip-hop fusion group ChocQuibTown are nominated for a Lo Nuestro music award, the group announced on their Twitter page, Thursday.

The video for the single “De donde vengo yo” (“Where I Come From”) is up for Video of the Year. The song reflects the richness and poverty of the band’s native Quibdo, capital of the Pacific department of Choco.

The Afro-Colombian trio, who fuse hip-hop with pacific rhythms, hip-hop, salsa, and reggae, asked their fans for “positive energy” ahead of the award ceremony.

The Lo Nuestro awards, which will take place Thursday at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, celebrate the musical talent of Latin America.

ChocQuibTown won a Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Song with “De donde vengo yo” in November 2010 and performed at the Grammy awards (althought they missed out on an award for best Latin rock, alternative or urban album) on February 13, 2011.

Fellow Colombians Juanes and Shakira are also nominated for Premio lo Nuestro awards. Juanes will perform at the award show and is nominated in the Rock category for Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for Yerbatero. Shakira is up for Female Artist of the Year in the category of Pop.
