ChocQuibTown dedicate new single to fans

Colombian hip-hop fusion trio ChocQuibTown release their new song “Tu cancion” (Your song) and have dedicated it to their legion of followers, Terra Colombia reported Monday.

The latest song is the first to be released from the group’s third album “Esto es lo que hay” (This is what there is), which is expected to go on sale around mid-2011.

“Tu cancion” was recorded in Miami with the respected Colombian producer Andres Castro, who also features on guitar, as well as including the work of rapper Tego Calderon and Pacific-coast singer Zully Marillo.

The trio from Quibdo, the capital of the Colombian Pacific department of Choco that gives them their name, have used their rise to international acclaim to give Afro-Colombians a voice on the world stage by “narrating a Colombia that does not appear in the mass media,” according to band member Tostao.

In February this year, ChocQuibTown missed out on winning a Grammy Award, although they did win a Latin Grammy in 2010 for their hit song “De donde vengo yo” (Where I come from).

They will play alongside Puerto-Rican duo Calle 13 in Cali on April 8, before both move on to entertain the crowds at Bogota’s Estereo Picnic Festival on April 9.
