Child found six years after reported missing

Colombia’s Prosecution found a child who was reported missing for six years after his parents were killed by the paramilitary.

The child was found alive and in the custody of a family in Bello, north of Medellin, Radio Caracol reported Tuesday.

Demobilized paramilitary leaders Ever ‘HH’ Veloza and Daniel Alejandro, alias ‘Kenner’, told the Prosecution about the whereabouts of the boy in one of their testimonies before Prosecutors.

Paramilitary group AUC killed the parents of the one-year-old boy, retired Army Sergeant Harvey Jose Ortiz Lozano and his partner Yuri Patricia Roa, in October 2003. The members discussed whether to murder the child as well, but decided that the baby was too young and should not die like his parents.

The boy will soon be handed over to his maternal family who has applied for custody before the authorities.

Apart from this case, the Prosecution found five children alive who were believed to be killed by the paramilitaries.
