Caracas Chamber of Commerce rejects nationalization of Exito

The Caracas Chamber of Commerce rejects the nationalization of French-Colombian supermarket Exito in Venezuela.

In an interview with local radio station Union Radio, Chamber of Commerce Director Victor Maldonado said the plans of President Hugo Chavez will “push us deeper into ruin.”

Maldonado accused Chavez of generating more unemployment in the country.

“The president has to adjust his economic policy, his ideology … and apologize to the country instead of worsening his mistakes,” the businessman said.

Chavez ordered the seizure of the French-owned retail chain on Sunday, following accusations that it raised prices after Venezuela devalued its currency by half.
