Cape Verde singer Cesaria Evora to perform World Music festival in Bogota

Cape Verde singer Cesaria Evora will perform for the second time Saturday at the World Music festival in Bogota.

The singer, known as the “barefoot diva” for going shoeless in solidarity with impoverished people in her country, kicked off the festival with a performance Thursday night.

The World Music festival features acts from all ranges of the musical spectrum, and takes place in the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo until April 1.

Colombian rock group Aterciopelados, called the “third best group in the world” by Time Magazine, will perform Sunday.
