Santos prosecutor general nominations illegal: Candidate

Lawyer Marco Antonio Velilla, who was nominated by ex-President Alvaro Uribe as a candidate for prosecutor general, rejects President Juan Manuel Santos’ new list of nominees for the position, W Radio reports.

The Supreme Court was supposed to select one successful candidate from Uribe’s list of three to become the next prosecutor general, but has failed to do so.

President Juan Manuel Santos presented three new candidates for the office of prosecutor general last week but Velilla explains that “from a practical point of view, six candidates have been short-listed where by law only three should be allowed.”

Velilla says that he will not step down from his nomination since “we have been subjected to unconstitutional and illegal procedures.”
