Bomb explodes at ex-para Congress candidate’s HQ

A bomb exploded outside the political head quarters of former paramilitary and Congress candidate Fernando Soto in Medellin on Tuesday night. No one was hurt in the attack.

The bomb, reportedly of low impact, was let off next to Soto’s vehicle in the Medellin suburb of Laureles, El Tiempo reported Wednesday.

“Nothing happened to the candidate, his bodyguards were with him at the time and a security device was activated to find those responsible,” Haidiber Restrepo, head of the metropolitan police said.

Soto declined to talk to local media.

The metropolitan police conducted a search of the city with the help of a helicopter to find the culprit.

So far no one has been arrested in relation to the incident.

Soto demobilized from paramilitary group the AUC in 2004. He launched his campaign for a seat in the House of Representatives with political party “National Renovation Movement,” a group composed of demobilized FARC and AUC members.
