Bogota woman is nuts for Nativity scenes

A Bogota woman has racked up a 32-strong collection of Christmas Nativity scenes, newspaper El Tiempo reported Thursday.

Elizabeth Jimenez said “Forty-five years ago I made a promise to God that each year I would put up a Nativity scene and pray to pay homage to Baby Jesus. I have never failed in that promise.”

Jimenez from the Niza neighborhood in the northwest of the capital, said she finds peace and happiness every time she puts up one of her Nativity scene, which includes some from Peru and Italy.

A handful of moss fatefully found 44 years ago was taken home, put it in a basket, and figures from the Christmas story placed on top of it.

Each year she would revive the plant with a little bit of water and at the same time rekindle the Christmas spirit in the Jimenez family. There is also “the rock” Nativity scene. Five years ago she found a curved rock which she thought would be a prefect replica of the manger.

Jimenez said, “When I saw the rock, an indescribable sensation ran through my body, so I knew it would be a great place to pay homage to God.”

Jimenez said she could have 100 more Nativity scenes because “it’s my way of showing my gratitude to God.”
