Bogota TransMilenio bus crash injures 86

The number of people injured when three buses from Bogota’s mass-transit system TransMilenio crashed on Monday morning has been raised to 86, with no deaths reported.

Initial media reports spoke of 26 injured, but that number was raised to 86 later in the afternoon.

The crash involved three TransMilenio buses and occurred on the northern highway at the height of Calle 127.

According to local authorities, 36 ambulances were sent to the scene to transport injured to seven different hospitals.

Metropolitan Police commissioner Yesid Ariza told press that the accident was caused by the drivers of one of the buses who suddenly hit the breaks causing a chain crash with the two following buses.
