Bogota taxi protests cause chaos

Bogota taxi drivers caused chaos in traffic Tuesday morning when they
protested increased insecurity by blocking a number of junctions. Some
of the city mass transit system Transmileno routes were blocked too.

The taxi drivers blocked a number of junctions in several parts of the city: Calle 100 with Carrera 15, the exit of Bosa, the Avenida de las Americas with Ciudad de Cali and the exit of Suba.

According to police records, two taxi drivers were murdered so far this year, 46 people were arrested for attacks on taxi drivers and 13 taxis were robbed.

“At this moment the city is paralyzed what traffic is concerned,” Transmilenio manager Fernando Paez told Caracol Radio just after the taxi drivers decided to end their two-hour demonstration. Paez estimated that the Transmilenio would be driving according achedule later in the morning.
