Bogota residents unhappy with Miss Colombia candidate

Bogota residents are dissatisfied with their candidate for Miss Colombia, newspaper El Heraldo reported Saturday.

Loly Fuentes Ballestas was chosen last week to represent the capital city in 2012’s national beauty contest, but many residents are unhappy with the choice because she was not born in Bogota.

The chances of a Bogota native being selected were not high as only two of the six candidates were actually born in the city.

Ballestas, a psychology student at the Universidad del Bosque, is from the coastal city of Barranquilla and moved to Bogota four years ago to pursue her degree. She is the third woman from the coast to represent Bogota in the competition since 2006.

The final contest to elect Miss Colombia will take place in the city of Cartagena in November.
