The Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra will celebrate the hundredth anniversary of Colombian composer Lucho Bermudez’ birth by staging four concerts throughout the capital city.
The orchestra will continue its Philharmonic in the Parks program, which brings orchestral music to a variety of outdoor venues in Bogota, by performing Bermudez’ classic works at four different parks.
The first show will take place at Sierra Morena Plaza on March 29, then Timiza Park on March 30, followed by Jubileo Compensar Park March 31 with the shows rounding up April 1 at Zonal Villa Alemana Park. All of the performances begin at 6PM.
The orchestra has promised to use the same traditional instruments that Bermudez used in his works.
The Colombian master was born January 25, 1912 in the northern town of El Carmen de Bolivar. He composed close to a thousand works that heavily influenced music throughout Latin America, residing for periods in Mexico and Cuba. He’s widely considered to be the main reason behind the popularization of Colombian folklore rhythms such as cumbia and porro in the 1940’s and 50’s.
